QUANTUM AERO

CTA explores the possibilities of Quantum technology in aviation

We are witnessing a technological revolution, promoted by the most advanced countries, which, although in an emerging phase and with great uncertainties, is developing exponentially. Quantum technologies are expected to create a massive paradigm shift in the way aircraft are built and fly. In particular, in the field of quantum computing, in use cases linked to Quantum Simulation (material behavior simulations), Quantum Optimization (fleet optimization), Quantum Machine learning (in data intelligence cases) and Quantum solvers (CFD).

CTA starts an exploratory analysis of quantum technologies in the QUANTUM AERO project. This is a project of the ARABA QUANTUM 2023 call of the Provincial Council of Alava, whose purpose is to promote research, development and use of quantum technologies in Alava in the aerospace sector. The general objectives proposed are to advance the science and technology of quantum computing in high value-added applications for the aerospace sector in Alava, to foster a solid base of knowledge and specialized skills in quantum computing that will allow companies in the aerospace sector to address the challenges and opportunities arising in this new technological era, and to establish a roadmap for approaching quantum technologies in the aerospace sector.

CTA participa en el FORO Retos y Tendencias en Tratamientos Superficiales / CTA participates in the FORUM Challenges and Trends in Surface Treatments

Last June 14, CTA participated in the FORUM Challenges and Trends in Surface Treatments, which was held at the Palacio de Saldañuela (Burgos), making a presentation entitled "Control of defects in surface coating using advanced thermography techniques".

The presentation was focused on the application of infrared thermography technology to different cases of interest for the control of surface coatings. Among the cases of interest, the great potential that thermography has to determine the thickness of the paint and control the pickling process was shown. This technique not only offers an accurate measurement, but also provides a non-invasive way to assess the quality of coatings without damaging the surface.

A case study on the control of the promoter application process on aircraft components was also presented, showing practical cases of real-time inspection without the need for additional heat input. The spontaneous evaporation of the aqueous phase of the promoter causes a cooling on the surface of the material, allowing accurate measurements to be made in intervals of a few seconds.

Finally, several developments carried out by CTA in the line of inspection automation in robotic environments were shown, where infrared thermography is combined with other technologies such as augmented reality and artificial intelligence. This integration allows a faster and more accurate assessment of the integrity of materials, reducing downtime and improving the quality of quality control.
