During this year, CTA has begun to work in different research and development tasks within the EKOHEGAZ project: “Digitalization of  theIntelligent and  Sustainable Aeronautical Industry  for  Zero Emission Aircraft”, funded by the Basque Government, ELKARTEK 2021 call.

EKOHEGAZ is a strategic project of Collaborative Fundamental Research, in which six research groups (four agents), which belong to the Basque Science and Technology Network, take part: CTA, leader of the proposal, the University of the Basque Country UPV-EHU, with the participation of three research groups: the High Performance Manufacturing group - FAR, the Applied Photonics group - APG, and the Advanced Control Group - GCA, the University of Mondragón MGEP - EPS-MU and TECNALIA.

In the SMAR3NAK project, various technologies focused on intelligent tooling are being developed aimed at monitoring and controlling the aeronautical assembly process and integrate the tolling into the factory 4.0 concept. The technologies that are being developed have been divided into 3 work packages (“New architectures”, “Data monitoring and post-processing” and “Wireless control and communication”) that converge in the development of an “Integral demonstrator” of technologies.

The purpose of the EKOHEGAZ project is the development of digitalization technologies for an Aeronautical, Intelligent and sustainable Industry oriented to zero emissions aircraft throughout its life cycle, addressing the following points: the improvement of processes to improve their efficiency, sustainability and flexibility, bringing the aeronautical sector closer to the challenges of the Smart Factory,  the redesign of industrial assets to maximize the efficiency and adaptability of current machinery to new production and sustainability challenges, increasing the safety and reliability of new products maximizing the efficiency and sustainability of the new components of the aircraft zero emissions, taking into account criteria of ecodesign and circular economy,  developing new validation technologies for the zero-emission (H2) aircraft, as well as validating the technologies and integrating several of them into at least two demonstrators.
