CTA participa en el FORO Retos y Tendencias en Tratamientos Superficiales / CTA participates in the FORUM Challenges and Trends in Surface Treatments

Last June 14, CTA participated in the FORUM Challenges and Trends in Surface Treatments, which was held at the Palacio de Saldañuela (Burgos), making a presentation entitled "Control of defects in surface coating using advanced thermography techniques".

The presentation was focused on the application of infrared thermography technology to different cases of interest for the control of surface coatings. Among the cases of interest, the great potential that thermography has to determine the thickness of the paint and control the pickling process was shown. This technique not only offers an accurate measurement, but also provides a non-invasive way to assess the quality of coatings without damaging the surface.

A case study on the control of the promoter application process on aircraft components was also presented, showing practical cases of real-time inspection without the need for additional heat input. The spontaneous evaporation of the aqueous phase of the promoter causes a cooling on the surface of the material, allowing accurate measurements to be made in intervals of a few seconds.

Finally, several developments carried out by CTA in the line of inspection automation in robotic environments were shown, where infrared thermography is combined with other technologies such as augmented reality and artificial intelligence. This integration allows a faster and more accurate assessment of the integrity of materials, reducing downtime and improving the quality of quality control.

HIPERION

CTA took part on HIPERION project focused on the knowledge and capabilities creation related to new space technologies and future planetary missions. The main task developed by CTA was focused on the simulation of pyroshock testing.

This test is a long and expensive trial and error process which can sometimes result in an unexpected delay on the qualification procedure of a space component. Therefore, being capable of numerically simulating these tests would suppose a cost and time reduction in the space component development and enhance competitiveness on the companies which resort to it.

Moreover, CTA has enhanced its pyroshock testing capabilities by the development of a new shock test bench. This new test bench will allow CTA to perform shock test on microsatellites and increase the maximum test level on standard size components.

HIPERION project is a project funded by the Basque Government in the ELKARTEK 2021 call for collaborative fundamental research projects.
